The Weekly List
Welcome to the very first Rocks, Talks & Walks Weekly List.
If you want to start your Monday outside, head to Scottsdale for a morning bird-watching walk. It's beginner-friendly, involves a little movement and gives you an excuse to spend the beginning of your week somewhere other than behind a screen. Bring some water, binoculars if you have them, and see what you can spot.
Tuesday feels like a good night to wander. Agritopia Farm Night in Gilbert is exactly the kind of low-effort weeknight plan we love: local produce, a beautiful setting and somewhere to stroll around without needing an elaborate itinerary. Grab something good, explore Agritopia and turn an otherwise ordinary Tuesday into a little outing.
By Wednesday, maybe you just need some live music. Scottsdale Sounds is bringing a free concert to Mustang Library, making it an easy midweek reason to leave the house that doesn't require turning your Wednesday night into a whole production.
Thursday's pick is admittedly a little less glamorous—but hear us out. 😂 Scottsdale is hosting a Water Efficiency & Controller Programming workshop at Civic Center Library. Is learning about irrigation programming the sexiest event we've ever shared? Probably not. But this is Arizona, and learning how to keep your landscaping alive without your water bill becoming a second mortgage feels surprisingly useful. One of the things we love most about finding local events is stumbling across things we probably never would have thought to learn about otherwise.
Then we get to Friday.
And Friday brings our RT&W Pick of the Week.
The East Valley Astronomy Club is hosting its monthly Public Star Party at the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert on Friday evening. Members bring telescopes for the public to use, giving you the chance to spend an evening looking at the night sky through equipment you probably don't have sitting in your apartment.
It's free. It's outside. It's a little unusual.
In other words: extremely Rocks, Talks & Walks.
There's something we love about deciding on a Friday afternoon that instead of doing the same thing you always do, you're going to drive to Gilbert and look at space for a while.
Saturday morning, we're heading back to Scottsdale because the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market is officially back for its new season.
Grab a coffee, wander through more than 100 local growers and specialty food producers, buy yourself something good and make a morning of it. This is also one of those plans that is almost perfect for doing alone. Put your headphones away, walk around, talk to a vendor, people-watch and enjoy having absolutely nowhere else you need to be.
If you're feeling a little more creative on Saturday, Gilbert also has Adventures in Art, an interactive workshop hosted by HD SOUTH and the Gilbert Visual Arts League. Tickets are listed at free to $5, which means you can try something completely different without committing to an expensive class or buying $100 worth of art supplies first.
And that's kind of the point of all of this.
Rocks, Talks & Walks didn't start because we thought everyone needed to cram more things into their calendars.
It came from realizing how much your life can expand when you start becoming curious about what's happening around you.
Go to the random lecture.
Try the art class.
Walk through the farmers market by yourself.
Learn something you know absolutely nothing about.
Look through a stranger's telescope.
You don't need every outing to become your new favorite hobby, your new best friend group or some transformational experience. Sometimes it's enough to come home thinking, “I'm glad I did that.”
And sometimes one random thing you almost talked yourself out of becomes a place, interest or community you keep coming back to.
That's why we're building this.
There are dozens more free and genuinely low-cost events already sitting on the Rocks, Talks & Walks calendar for October and November across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa and Gilbert. This Weekly List is just where we'll pull out a few things every Sunday that caught our attention.
So if nothing here feels like your thing, keep looking.
Find something interesting. Then go.
And if the only thing stopping you is not having someone to go with, that's exactly why we're building the RT&W women's community, too. Find the event, find someone else who's thinking about going, and meet there.
Or go alone.
You might be surprised by how good you get at it.
Never Miss a Sunday
Every Sunday, we'll send the next Weekly List straight to your inbox with some of our favorite free and low-cost things happening around the Valley.
No daily emails. No spam. And no pretending a $65 ticket counts as a cheap night out.
Just interesting ways to move, learn, explore & connect with the place you live.
Join the Weekly List, explore the full calendar, and we'll see you out there.
